§ 54352 Sewer Connection Mandate

Key Takeaways

  • •If a city builds a new sewer system, they can say old sewage pits (cesspools) are bad and must be stopped.
  • •Houses or buildings close to the new sewer (up to 200 feet away) must connect to it.
  • •The city gives at least 30 days to connect after it’s possible to do so.

Example

A town builds a new sewer system on your street.

If your house is within 200 feet of the new sewer, the town can tell you to stop using your old sewage pit and hook up to the new system. They’ll give you at least 30 days to do it once it’s ready.
