§ 53240 Employee Property Replacement Costs

Key Takeaways

  • •If you work for the government and your stuff (like glasses, hearing aids, or clothes) gets broken or lost while you're working, your boss might pay to fix or replace it.
  • •You only get paid if it wasn’t your fault.
  • •If something is too broken to fix, they’ll pay what it was worth before it got broken.

Example

A firefighter’s glasses get melted in a fire while saving someone.

The city will pay for new glasses because they got ruined at work and it wasn’t the firefighter’s fault.
