§ 53023 Extraterritorial Employee Benefits Extension

Key Takeaways

  • •If you work for a local agency (like a city or county), the same protections and benefits you get while working in your area also apply when you work outside your area.
  • •This includes things like not being held personally responsible for mistakes, getting pensions, disability benefits, and workers' compensation.
  • •The law makes sure you're treated the same way, no matter where you're doing your job for the agency.

Example

A firefighter from City A helps put out a big fire in City B.

Even though the firefighter is working outside their usual city, they still get the same protections and benefits as if they were working in City A. If they get hurt, they can still get workers' compensation. If someone tries to sue them for a mistake, they have the same protections as they would back home.
