§ 52170 Authority Claims Procedures

Key Takeaways

  • •If you want money from the authority (like a government agency) because they did something wrong, you have to follow special rules to ask for it.
  • •These rules are mostly in Parts 3 and 4 of a big book of laws, unless there’s another law that says something different.
  • •If the problem is covered by insurance (like a car crash with a government car), they might send your claim to the insurance company to handle.

Example

A government truck hits your car and causes damage.

You can’t just ask for money right away. You have to follow the rules in Parts 3 and 4 of the law to file a claim. If the truck was insured, the government might send your claim to their insurance company to fix your car or pay you.
