§ 50739 Bond Call Provisions

Key Takeaways

  • •Some bonds can be paid back early, but only if the rules say so.
  • •The people in charge decide when and how to pay back early.
  • •If a bond can be paid back early, it must say so on the bond itself.
  • •You might have to pay extra money (a premium) to pay the bond back early.

Example

Imagine you lend money to a city by buying their bond. The bond says it will be paid back in 10 years.

The city can pay you back early only if the bond says they can. If it does, they might pay you a little extra money for the trouble.
