§ 50612 Maintenance District Special Assessment

Key Takeaways

  • •The government can charge a small extra tax (up to $0.50 for every $100 of your property's value) to take care of parks or open spaces in your area.
  • •This tax is only for people who live in the special area that needs this money.
  • •The tax is collected the same way as your normal property taxes, with the same rules for late payments.
  • •The government can decide to pay some or all of the costs themselves instead of charging the tax.

Example

You own a house worth $300,000 in a neighborhood with a nice park.

The government might charge you an extra $1,500 per year (which is $0.50 for every $100 of your home's value) to help pay for keeping the park clean and safe. This fee is added to your normal property tax bill.
