Key Takeaways

  • •If a group of workers wants to be the official representative for other workers, they can ask the board to help if the boss says no or ignores them for 30 days.
  • •If two groups of workers both want to represent the same workers, they can ask the board to decide who should be in charge.
  • •A group of workers can ask the board to officially say they are the representatives, but they need to show that at least 30% of the workers want them to be in charge.

Example

A group of teachers at a school want to form a union to talk to the principal about better pay. They ask the principal to recognize them, but the principal says no.
