§ 3507 Public Agency Employee Relations

Key Takeaways

  • •Public agencies (like government offices) can make rules about how they work with employee groups (like unions).
  • •These rules can cover things like checking if a group really represents the workers, how disputes are solved, and how the group can talk to workers.
  • •If a group is officially recognized by most workers, it can't be removed for at least 12 months.
  • •Agencies can't refuse to recognize worker groups without a good reason.

Example

A group of teachers wants to form a union to talk to the school district about better pay and working conditions.

The school district must talk to the teachers' group in good faith and can make rules about how they will work together. If most teachers vote to recognize the group, the school district can't stop recognizing it for at least 12 months.
