§ 32352 Disability Retirement For Firefighters

Key Takeaways

  • •If you get hurt or sick because of your job as a firefighter or forester, you can retire early, no matter your age or how long you've worked.
  • •If you get sick or hurt in a way that's not because of your job, you can still retire early, but only if you've worked for at least 10 years.
  • •A special group decides if you're too hurt or sick to keep working.
  • •This rule only counts the time you worked and paid into the system as a firefighter, fire warden, or forester.

Example

A firefighter gets badly burned while putting out a fire and can't work anymore.

Because the firefighter got hurt on the job, they can retire early and get benefits, even if they're young or haven't worked for 10 years yet.
