§ 32022 Member Contribution Rates

Key Takeaways

  • •The amount you pay into the retirement system depends on your age when you start.
  • •The younger you are when you start, the less you pay each month.
  • •The most you pay is based on a salary of $500 a month, even if you earn more.
  • •The percentage you pay goes up as you get older when you join.

Example

If you start working for the government at age 25, you will pay a certain percentage of your salary into the retirement system.

If you start at 25, you pay 5.05% of your salary each month. If your salary is $600 a month, you only pay 5.05% of $500 because that’s the maximum amount used for the calculation.
