§ 29086 General Reserve Budget Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •The general reserve (like a savings account for the government) can only be changed when the budget is made, unless there's a big emergency.
  • •During the year, they can add more money to the reserve, but only if at least four-fifths of the board agree.
  • •This rule helps make sure the reserve isn't changed too often or without good reason.

Example

Imagine your city has a savings account for unexpected problems, like fixing roads after a big storm.

The city can only add or take out money from this savings account when they plan their yearly budget. But if a big problem happens (like a storm), they can add more money if most of the leaders agree.
