§ 27387 Lien Recording Fee

Key Takeaways

  • •If someone records a lien (a legal claim) on your property because you owe them money, they have to pay a fee to the county.
  • •This fee only applies to private people or companies, not the government.
  • •The fee can't be more than what it actually costs the county to send out the required notice about the lien.

Example

If you don't pay a contractor for fixing your house, they might put a lien on your home.

The contractor has to pay a small fee to the county when they record this lien, but the fee can't be too high—just enough to cover the county's cost to mail you a notice about it.
