§ 23234 County Boundary Change Petition

Key Takeaways

  • •You need to clearly describe the new boundary line you want to create.
  • •The new boundary line cannot cut through any city.
  • •You must say how big the area is (in square miles) that you want to move.
  • •You have to say how many people will stay in each county after the change.
  • •You must name the counties involved in the transfer.

Example

Imagine you live in a small town near the edge of County A, and you want your town to become part of County B instead. You think it would be better for everyone because County B has better schools and services.

To make this happen, you need to follow the rules in this law. You have to draw a clear new line showing where County A ends and County B begins. This new line can't cut through any nearby cities. You also need to figure out how big the area is that you want to move to County B and how many people will still be living in County A and County B after the change. Finally, you have to name both counties in your request.
