§ 21508 Body Disposition Expense Payment

Key Takeaways

  • •If someone dies and they were supposed to get money from this system, but there's no family left to get the money, the board can use that money to pay for their funeral.
  • •The board will only pay as much as the person was supposed to get—no more.
  • •Once the board pays for the funeral, they don’t owe anything else.

Example

A person dies and had no family, but they were supposed to get $5,000 from this system.

The board can use that $5,000 to pay for the funeral, but they won’t pay more than $5,000. After that, they’re done—they don’t owe anything else.
