§ 20990 Military Service Leave Rights

Key Takeaways

  • •If you work for the state and join the military (like the Army, Navy, or National Guard), you get special protection for your job.
  • •This includes active duty, training, or even just taking a test to see if you can join.
  • •The rules follow a federal law (Chapter 43 of Title 38) that makes sure your job is safe while you serve.

Example

If you work for the state and get called for Army training for a month, your boss can't fire you or take away your job.

The law says your job is protected while you're away serving in the military, and you get to come back to work after.
