§ 20682 State Employee Contribution Rates

Key Takeaways

  • •Some state workers pay a part of their salary to a retirement fund. How much they pay depends on their job type and how much they earn.
  • •If you earn more than a certain amount each month, you pay a percentage of the extra money to the retirement fund.
  • •Different jobs have different rules. For example, regular workers pay less than police officers or firefighters.
  • •The rules changed in 2016, so some workers now pay a little more than before.

Example

A state worker earns $3,000 a month and is not part of the federal retirement system.

This worker pays 9% of any money they earn over $317 each month. So, they pay 9% of ($3,000 - $317).
