§ 17 Definition Of Person

Key Takeaways

  • •The word 'person' in laws doesn't just mean one human being.
  • •It can also mean groups like companies, partnerships, or organizations.
  • •Even if it's a big company or a small group, the law treats them as a 'person'.

Example

If a big toy company sells a broken toy that hurts a kid, the law can punish the company like it's a 'person'.

The law says the company is a 'person' too, so it can be held responsible just like a single human would.
