§ 16328 Education Account Cashflow Loans

Key Takeaways

  • •There's a special bank account in California called the Education Protection Account just for school money.
  • •The person in charge of money (the Controller) can sometimes borrow money from this account to help the state when it's short on cash.
  • •This borrowing is only allowed in certain situations, like when the state really needs money fast.

Example

Imagine the state needs money to pay for something important, like fixing roads, but doesn't have enough cash right now.

The Controller can take some money from the school account to help pay for the roads, but they have to follow special rules and pay it back later.
