§ 1505 County Officer Bond Liability

Key Takeaways

  • •If a county or court officer messes up their job, they (and their helpers) might have to pay money.
  • •This rule doesn’t apply to criminal cases—only to mistakes in their regular work.
  • •The officer’s official promise (bond) covers the cost if they fail to do their job right.

Example

A county clerk loses important papers for a family’s house sale.

The clerk’s bond (a kind of insurance) would have to pay for the trouble caused, not just the clerk.
