• •The Director of Finance makes sure all state agencies follow the rules for checking their own work (internal audits).
• •They also figure out when agencies must follow audit rules from the federal government.
• •The people who do these checks must follow special professional rules called 'Standards for the Professional Practices of Internal Auditing'.

A state agency, like the Department of Education, checks its own spending to make sure money is used correctly.

The Director of Finance makes sure this check is done the right way, following the professional rules. If the federal government says they must do an extra check, the Director will make sure that happens too.
