§ 12332 Treasurer Bond Issuance Approval

Key Takeaways

  • •The Treasurer is the main person who says 'yes' to the state borrowing money (like taking out a loan).
  • •If the Treasurer is not around, the Attorney General can step in and say 'yes' instead, but only if the Governor asks them to.
  • •This only happens when the federal government says the state needs someone to approve borrowing money.

Example

The state wants to borrow money to build new schools.

Normally, the Treasurer would sign off on this loan. But if the Treasurer is sick and can't do it, the Governor can ask the Attorney General to sign instead. This way, the state can still get the money it needs to build the schools.
