§ 11274 Administrative Cost Allocation Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •The Department of Finance can charge a fair share of admin costs to all state funds.
  • •They decide how much each fund should pay and tell the Controller.
  • •They can ask for money in advance if needed.
  • •The Controller moves the money to the right fund when told to do so.

Example

Imagine a school has different clubs, like a sports club and an art club. The school needs to pay for things like electricity and janitors, which all clubs use.

The school (like the Department of Finance) figures out how much each club should pay for these shared costs. Then, the school tells the principal (like the Controller) how much each club needs to pay. The principal makes sure the money goes to the right place.
