§ 1026 Unauthorized Office Oath Violation

Key Takeaways

  • •If you work in a government job but didn't take the required oath (like promising to do your job honestly), you're breaking the law.
  • •If you're in charge of hiring and you knowingly hire someone for a government job who didn't take the required oath, you're also breaking the law.
  • •Breaking this law is a big deal—it's a felony, which means serious trouble.

Example

A mayor hires their friend for a city job, even though they know the friend refused to take the required oath to do the job honestly.

The mayor is breaking the law because they hired someone who didn’t take the oath, and they could get in serious trouble for it.
