§ 7252 Savings Association Service Investments

Key Takeaways

  • •Banks can buy parts of companies that help them do their job better, like tech or customer service companies.
  • •Banks can't spend more than 10% of their total money on these investments.
  • •The companies banks invest in must do work that makes sense for a bank, like handling money or loans.
  • •These companies can work with other businesses, even ones outside the state or that sell shares to regular people.

Example

A bank wants to buy a piece of a company that makes apps for tracking savings.

The bank can do this because the app helps people save money, which is what banks do. But the bank can't spend more than 10% of all its money on this and other similar buys.
