§ 8686 Gill Net Mesh Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •In certain areas of California (Districts 11½, 21½, and the Trinity and Klamath River District), you can't have a fishing net with holes bigger than 1¾ inches.
  • •This rule is for gill nets and trammel nets, which are types of fishing nets.
  • •There might be special rules where you *can* use bigger nets, but you have to follow what the California Fish and Game Commission says.

Example

You're fishing in the Trinity River with a gill net that has 2-inch holes.

This is against the law because the holes in your net are too big. You could get in trouble unless the commission has a special rule allowing it.
