§ 8582 Marlin Protection And Prohibition

• •This law is not meant to allow or encourage catching marlin for business purposes.
• •It is illegal for anyone with a permit to sell marlin or have it for sale or personal use.
• •If a marlin is accidentally caught in a drift gill net, the person must tell the department right away.
• •The marlin cannot be taken off the boat except to give it to the department.

A fisherman with a permit accidentally catches a marlin in his drift gill net.

The fisherman must immediately call the department to report the marlin. He cannot sell it, keep it for himself, or take it off the boat unless he is giving it to the department.
