§ 8425 Squid Fishery Management Plan

Key Takeaways

  • •The law says California must have a plan to protect squid and manage squid fishing.
  • •The plan must keep squid populations healthy and consider things like how many squid are caught and how squid fit into the ocean environment.
  • •The plan must follow other California fishing rules and work with federal (national) fishing plans.

Example

A fishing boat catches too many squid, leaving not enough for other sea animals to eat.

The law says California must have rules to stop this from happening. They must make sure enough squid stay in the ocean so the whole ecosystem stays healthy.
