§ 8113 Far Offshore Fishing Declarations

Key Takeaways

  • •Before leaving a U.S. port to fish far offshore, the boat operator must fill out a form and give it to the department.
  • •The form must be signed by the boat operator and have all the required info to be valid.
  • •After the fishing trip, the boat operator must fill out and send the return part of the form to the department within 12 hours of arriving back at a California port.
  • •This rule does not apply to fishermen who only use troll lines or angling gear to catch albacore.

Example

A fishing boat leaves San Diego to go fishing far out in the ocean.

Before leaving, the boat operator must fill out a form and give it to the department. When they come back, they have 12 hours to fill out and send the return part of the form. If they only catch albacore with troll lines, they don't need to do this.
