§ 703 Department Policy And Responsibilities

Key Takeaways

  • •The commission makes the big rules for the department, and the director follows them.
  • •The department must respond quickly to requests about cutting down trees, unless they get more time.
  • •If the department has no problems with the tree-cutting plan, they don’t have to say anything.

Example

A company wants to cut down trees in a forest. They send their plan to the Department of Forestry.

The department has to check the plan and say if it’s okay or if there are problems, like hurting animals or the environment. If they don’t reply, it means they’re fine with the plan.

The department shall include specific comments or recommendations, or both, on any significant environmental issues raised by the proposed timber harvesting plan in its area of jurisdiction, including any proposed mitigation measures. The department shall also identify its statutory authority for any requests or recommendations for mitigation that it may determine to be necessary.
