§ 6022 Water Bypass Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If you take a little water (less than 3 cubic feet per second), you only need to let 18 gallons per minute go around your diversion.
  • •If you take a medium amount of water (3 to 10 cubic feet per second), you need to let 30 gallons per minute go around.
  • •If you take a lot of water (10 to 20 cubic feet per second), you need to let 40 gallons per minute go around.
  • •If you take a huge amount of water (more than 20 cubic feet per second), you only need to let 0.5% of the water go around.

Example

A farmer is using water from a river to water their crops. They are taking 5 cubic feet per second of water.

Since the farmer is taking between 3 and 10 cubic feet per second of water, they need to let 30 gallons per minute go around their diversion to follow the law.
