§ 1500 State Land Exchange Rules

This law lets the department trade or sell pieces of land inside certain wildlife and waterfowl areas, but only if the total size of each area stays the same.

Key Takeaways

  • •The department can exchange or sell land inside the listed wildlife and waterfowl areas.
  • •Any exchange or sale needs approval from the commission and the Department of General Services.
  • •The total area of each range or area cannot be reduced by the transaction.
  • •Copies of all deeds must be sent to the State Lands Commission.

Example

The department wants to swap a small, unused parcel in the Doyle Deer Winter Range for a nearby piece of land that is better for deer habitat.

With approval from the commission and the Department of General Services, the department can make the swap as long as the total acreage of the Doyle Deer Winter Range does not get smaller, and they must send a copy of the deed to the State Lands Commission.
