§ 10653 Wildlife Transport In Refuge

You can openly carry any wildlife you legally own while driving on public roads through the San Francisco Fish and Game Refuge, but only from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset.

Key Takeaways

  • •You may carry legally possessed birds, mammals, fish, amphibians, or reptiles openly while on public roads in the refuge.
  • •The allowed time window is from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.
  • •The rule only applies to travel on public roads, not when you are off the road or hiking.

Example

A person drives through the refuge on Highway 101 with a legally owned pet turtle in a carrier.

Because they are on a public road and the time is within the allowed window, they can have the turtle visible without breaking the law.
