§ 9204 Mutual Consent Adoption Contact

Key Takeaways

  • •If an adopted adult and their birth parents both agree in writing, the adoption agency can help them meet.
  • •The agency cannot ask or pressure anyone to sign the agreement.
  • •The agreement must be in a special form provided by the agency.

Example

A 30-year-old person who was adopted as a baby wants to meet their birth parents.

If both the adopted person and their birth parents sign a paper saying they want to meet, the adoption agency can help set up a meeting. But the agency can't ask them to sign the paper—they have to decide on their own.
