§ 17414 Parentage Stipulation Requirements

This law says that if parents agree in writing who the child's parents are, the court can make it official without a big fight. But the parent who is agreeing must sign a paper saying they know their rights and are giving them up.

Key Takeaways

  • •Parents can agree in writing who the child's parents are.
  • •The agreeing parent must sign a paper saying they know their rights.
  • •The court can then make the parentage official.

Example

A mom and dad aren't married, and the mom wants the dad to legally be recognized as the father.

If the dad agrees in writing and signs a paper saying he knows his rights, the court can say he's the legal father without a long court battle.
