§ 79186 Fisheries Data Confidentiality Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Private info about fishermen (like names, addresses, and how much fish they catch or sell) is kept secret.
  • •The government can only share this info if a court orders it after a hearing.
  • •They can share general info (like total fish caught or sold) as long as it doesn’t name individual fishermen.

Example

A reporter asks the government for a list of fishermen and how much money they made from selling fish.

The government can’t give out the list because it’s private info. But they can share the total amount of fish sold by all fishermen together.
