§ 78278 Commission Referendum Funding Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Before a vote happens, the people who want the vote must pay for it upfront.
  • •If there's money left after the vote, they get it back.
  • •If the vote passes, the new group can pay back the people who paid for the vote.

Example

A group of neighbors wants to create a new neighborhood watch program and needs a vote to make it official.

The neighbors must first pay the city money to set up and run the vote. If the vote happens and there's leftover money, they get it back. If the neighborhood watch program is approved, the new program can pay the neighbors back for the costs they covered.
