§ 6943 Citrus Disease Testing Entities

Key Takeaways

  • •Only certain groups can test for plant diseases in citrus trees, like government-approved citrus groups, California public universities, or private experts who meet strict rules.
  • •These groups must follow the testing rules perfectly and can be checked again later to make sure they’re still doing a good job.
  • •If the group makes a mistake, the government isn’t responsible for it.

Example

A farmer thinks their orange trees are sick and needs a test to find out what’s wrong.

The farmer can’t just pick any lab—they have to use one approved by the state, like a lab from a California university or a private lab that follows the state’s rules. If the lab messes up the test, the farmer can’t blame the government.
