  • •There is a group called the California Kiwifruit Commission that helps with kiwifruit stuff in California.
  • •The group has 11 people: 8 kiwifruit farmers (one from each area), 1 extra farmer chosen by all farmers, 1 person who handles kiwifruit, and 1 regular person not in the kiwifruit business.
  • •The regular person is picked by the secretary from a list of names the group suggests.
  • •Some people, like the secretary, are part of the group but don’t get to vote.

Example

Imagine you grow kiwifruit in California. You and other farmers in your area get to vote for one person to represent your area in the California Kiwifruit Commission.

This group helps make decisions about kiwifruit in California. If you’re a farmer, you get to help pick who’s in the group. If you’re not a farmer, you might still get picked to be the regular person in the group.
