§ 6255 County Assessment Collection Process

Key Takeaways

  • •The county auditor calculates and records the assessment (a fee or tax) on the official list.
  • •If the local leaders (supervisors) don’t set the assessment, the auditor will do it instead.
  • •The assessment is collected with your regular county taxes, not separately.
  • •The money goes into the county treasury to be used for the local district.

Example

Your town needs money to fix the local park.

The county auditor adds a small fee to your yearly tax bill to help pay for the park repairs. You pay it along with your normal taxes, and the money goes to the town to fix the park.
