§ 6235 Board Member Terms

Key Takeaways

  • •Board members serve for at least one year.
  • •The board can decide to make the term longer than one year.
  • •Members stay in their role until someone new is chosen and ready to take over.

Example

A local school board has members whose terms are up in June.

Even if their term ends in June, they keep working until the new members are picked and ready. If the board decides, they might even serve for two years instead of one.
