§ 61809 Severability Of Provisions

Key Takeaways

  • •If one part of this law is found to be unfair or wrong, the rest of the law still works.
  • •The people who made the law say they would have made each part even if other parts were removed.
  • •This law is like a puzzle—if one piece is broken, the other pieces still fit together.

Example

Imagine a law that says you can't litter and you can't play loud music in a park. A court says the rule about loud music is unfair.

Even though the loud music rule is gone, the rule about not littering still counts. The law still works without the unfair part.

(Repealed and added by Stats. 1977, Ch. 1192.)
