§ 6055 Cotton District Formation Petition

Key Takeaways

  • •Farmers who want to create a special cotton district must ask the local government for permission.
  • •They need to get a lot of other cotton farmers to sign a paper (petition) to show they agree.
  • •At least half of the farmers (who grow most of the cotton) OR most of the farmers (who grow at least half of the cotton) must sign.
  • •They have to do this within 30 days after getting a list of all cotton farmers in the area.

Example

A group of cotton farmers in a county want to form a special district to help them work together better.

They have 30 days to collect signatures from other cotton farmers. If they get enough signatures (like 50 farmers who grow 65% of the cotton OR 65 farmers who grow 50% of the cotton), they can ask the local government to create the district.
