§ 59290 Lot Compliance Or Destruction

Key Takeaways

  • •If someone complains about a piece of land being in bad shape, the court can tell the owner to fix it or explain why they shouldn't have to.
  • •The owner has 5 days to fix the problems or tell the court why they can't or shouldn't.
  • •If the owner doesn't fix the problems or give a good reason, the court can make them change how the land is used or even destroy it.

Example

Imagine your neighbor has a empty lot full of trash and broken stuff. It's messy and unsafe.

Someone can complain to the court about this lot. The court will then tell the owner to clean it up or explain why they can't. If the owner doesn't clean it up or give a good reason, the court can make them use the land for something else or even make them get rid of it.
