§ 58888 Commodity Grading Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •This law lets people set rules for how fruits, veggies, or other farm products should look, feel, or be packed before they are sold.
  • •The rules can say how big, ripe, or good the product must be, but they can't be worse than what the law already says.
  • •Everyone must check and grade the products the same way so it’s fair for all sellers and buyers.

Example

A farmer wants to sell oranges at the market.

The law says the oranges must be a certain size and not too green. Before selling, someone checks all the oranges to make sure they meet these rules. If they don’t, the farmer can’t sell them.
