§ 5764 Fruit Fly Host Plant Replacement

Key Takeaways

  • •If there's a bad bug (fruit fly) problem in an area, the government can make a deal with plant owners to remove and replace their plants instead of just treating them.
  • •The government will pay for new plants, but they can't spend more money than they have budgeted or approved for this.
  • •This rule is only for places where the government has officially said there's a fruit fly problem.

Example

A farmer has orange trees in an area where the government has announced a fruit fly problem.

The government can offer the farmer a deal to remove his orange trees and replace them with new ones that won't attract fruit flies, instead of just spraying chemicals. The government will pay for the new trees, but only if they have enough money budgeted for it.
