§ 56501 Hearing Misconduct Certification

Key Takeaways

  • •If you ignore or refuse to follow a lawful order in a hearing, you can get in trouble.
  • •If you don't show up when you're called as a witness, or refuse to answer questions after swearing to tell the truth, that's bad.
  • •Acting badly during a hearing, like causing a disturbance, can also get you in trouble.
  • •The person in charge will report your behavior to a higher court if you break these rules.

Example

You are called to be a witness in a court-like hearing about a car accident you saw. You show up but refuse to answer any questions after promising to tell the truth.

Because you refused to answer questions after swearing to tell the truth, the person running the hearing can report you to a bigger court for breaking the rules.
