§ 5551 Abandoned Plant Nuisance Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If a plant or crop is left alone and not taken care of, it can be a problem for everyone.
  • •It’s a problem if the plant has bugs or sickness that can spread to other plants.
  • •It’s also a problem if the plant can attract bugs or sickness, even if it’s not sick yet.
  • •The government can step in and call it a 'public nuisance' if it’s hurting nearby farms or gardens.

Example

A farmer leaves an old orange grove untended, and the trees get full of bugs that love oranges.

Those bugs can fly to other farms and ruin their orange trees too. The law says this is a public nuisance because it hurts other farmers. The government can make the farmer fix it or clean it up.
