§ 54081 Cooperative Association Formation Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •This law is about creating a group (called an 'association') for people who make or grow things, like farmers or crafters.
  • •The group must have a name, a purpose, and a main office location.
  • •The group must have at least 3 leaders (directors) and their names and addresses must be listed.
  • •If the group has members with different voting powers or shares, the rules about who gets what must be clearly written down.

Example

A group of local farmers want to work together to sell their vegetables.

They need to write down their group's name, like 'Sunny Valley Farmers,' say their purpose is to sell vegetables together, pick a main office (like Farmer Joe's barn), and choose at least 3 leaders. If some farmers get more votes or shares than others, they have to write down the rules for that too.
