§ 52852 Cotton Land Use Restrictions

Key Takeaways

  • •This law is about keeping cotton plants pure and strong.
  • •If different cotton seeds mix, the cotton can become weak and bad.
  • •Farmers must follow rules to stop cotton seeds from mixing.
  • •This helps cotton stay good for making clothes and other stuff.

Example

A farmer plants two different types of cotton seeds next to each other.

The wind or bees might mix the seeds, making the cotton weak. The law says this is bad and tells farmers to keep cotton types separate.

§ 52852 Cotton Land Use Restrictions

The Legislature also declares that the restriction of the use to which cotton lands and cotton gins may be used, as provided in this chapter, is essential to the highest development of the cotton-growing industry; otherwise the different types of seed will be mixed, crossing will take place in the field, the varieties will be mongrelized and cease to be uniform, the fiber will deteriorate in quality, and the seed will be rendered unfit for planting. (Amended by Stats. 2008, Ch. 189, Sec. 2. Effective January 1, 2009. Conditionally inoperative on January 1, 2014, as prescribed in Section 52991.)
