§ 52100 Crop Research Damage Liability

Key Takeaways

  • •If you purposely ruin crops that are part of a special test or project by the government or certain universities, you have to pay double the cost of the damaged crops.
  • •The extra money covers the cost of the research and testing that was lost when the crops were ruined.
  • •This rule is on top of any other trouble you might get into for damaging the crops.

Example

A farmer gets mad at a new type of tomato being tested by the University of California and sprays weed killer on the test field, destroying all the tomatoes.

The farmer would have to pay twice the cost of the ruined tomatoes because they were part of a special test. This includes paying back the money spent on researching and testing those tomatoes.
